I've never actually seen webkit return any of its memory for html5 videos. The sad truth is that I got so used to closing and re-starting the browser in order to free the multiple Gigabytes webkit (WebKitWebProcess as of Webkit2) has aten up, that I never actually bothered to report this. Easily reproducible with gstreamer-1.0 and youtube videos. Closing the tab will not free the memory.
