Given a table with border-collapse: collapse;, alpha transparent borders that collapse with adjacent cells will be more opaque than they should be. I believe this may be related to bug 21835. I've linked to a test case in the bug report that demonstrates the behavior. Note the borders in the inner area of the table seem to be superimposed.

Collapsed border colors with alpha values are still broken as of Chrome 55.0.2883.28 beta. A simple example with red and blue bending to form dark red (??) instead of just red as is done in Firefox. https://codebin.googleplex.com/#/gh8uu7gsnkh

This appears to still be a problem in Safari 15.
