You cannot debug a safari PWA on an iphone with safari on a mac. * connect your iphone to your mac with a cable * click your pwa icon on the iphone to launch it running safari * launch Safari on your mac and pull down the develop menu, then your phone submenu Actual: The submenu contains a grayed out item called "No Inspectable Applications". Expected: The the submenu contains a menu item for connecting to the pwa. Safari Versions: * iphone: iOS 16.6.1 (20G81) * mac Version 16.6 (18615.3.12.11.2) Note: If you launch safari on your mac instead, the develop menu shows the web site. So the settings for remote debugging are configured.
There were a number of issues around this workflow of inspecting Home Screen Web Apps that were fixed in Safari 17 and iOS 17. It’s unclear which one you’re encountering here, but there likely isn’t a viable workaround on iOS 16.6 and Safari 16.6. We recommend upgrading to iOS 17 on the iPhone and Safari 17 on the Mac. You can get Safari 17 as a standalone update on macOS Ventura 13.6.1 in System Settings > Software Update > Other Updates Available. Or, if you can, upgrade the system to macOS 14. There were a number of changes and bug fixes made to the Develop menu in Safari 17: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safari-developer-tools/develop-menu The WWDC23 session “Rediscover Safari Developer Features” explains most of what’s changed: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10262/ Upgrading will likely solve the issue with inspecting Home Screen Web Apps on an iPhone. But if the issue persists, it may be something new, so we’ll kindly ask you to file a bug using the Feedback Assistant app on your Mac (topic “macOS”, area “Safari”) and attach a sysdiagnose from both the Mac and iPhone to help us investigate. Bugzilla attachments are public so you shouldn’t attach sysdiagnoses here. Please paste the Feedback Assistant issue number here so we can find it quickly. I hope upgrading fixes it, though.
I updated my mac and phone and I can now debug my PWA app. * Mac version 14.1, Safari Version 17.1 (19616.2.9.11.7) * iphone iOS version 17.1
